One of the fastest-growing sectors of our economy is the health care industry, and employment in the field is increasing to keep pace. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 18% job growth for health care executives between 2018 and 2028 — with an estimated 71,600 new jobs being added during this period.

As our nation’s health care system becomes larger and more complex, the demands placed upon the next generation of industry leaders also continue to grow. Issues such as escalating costs, allocation of funding across generations and measuring quality of care need to be addressed, and there are no quick fixes.

As the health care industry faces an aging baby boomer population and people continue to remain active later in life, the growth in demand for medical products and services will continue. An increase in physicians, patients, procedures and facilities will escalate the professional opportunities for health care administrators. In addition, services previously provided in hospitals will shift to offices of health practitioners. This changing environment will continue to offer executive-level careers for experienced professionals looking to make a more global impact in the way care is managed and delivered.

Individual states and areas with the highest employment numbers in the field include California (34,510), Texas (30,010), New York (25,830), Pennsylvania (16,410) and Massachusetts (15,380).
